I quit my job of 7 years in September because my grandchildren  (three ages 1,2 and 6) were left to fend for themselves with strangers at a motel.  I have had them ever since.  I now have legal guardianship.  My work would not give me even one day to find child care.  They said quit or be fired.  I quit.  Because I quit I am not entitled to unemployment benefits.  I have spent all my retirement savings and finally just went on food stamps.  I went for a job interview today that went very well and I may have the job, but other people need to be interviewed before a decision is made.  I do not know how I am going to pay the mortage this month and  hope that someone will help me.  It is $1489.00 and that includes insurance and taxes.  Please pray for us.  On Monday I have an appointment for help with utilities and fuel.  The kids are doing great and I pray that we can stay here and not lose our home.  The house itself needs things.  The septic needs repairs and I was given a quote of $1200.  The one  bathroom show has porcelein appliances in three different colors - white, bisque and blue.  The floor has a hole cut in it and needs new flooring.  The shower has no handle and we use needle nose pliers to start it.  The kitchen has had several cupboards removed and the air vent over the stove is just hanging and is all dented.  All of the metal covers on the baseboard heaters are missing.  We need new carpeting or wood flooring in the kitchen, dining room and living room.  I have some ceiling fans to put up, but am not mechanical and do not dare do it.  The back deck was cut away from the house with a Milwaukee Sawzall and needs to be replaced or repaired.  The vast majority of the  repairs that need to be done were accomplished by my ex before he left to discourage me from  wanting the house.  I have come this far, I am not going to give up yet.  Don't help me, help the grandkids have a secure safe home so they will not be homeless again.

I am a mid-fifties grandmother who is unemployed, not eligible for unemployment and too young for retirement.  I live in rural New Hampshire and am legal guardian to 'Little' Ronnie age 19 months, Summer age 2 3/4 years and Justin age 6.  We are hanging on by our fingernails financially, but we are a close-knit family and will find a way somehow.  The two younger children's father is an imate in New Hampshire State Prison, the eldest boy's father has had little to do with him since his birth and he too has been in and out of New Hampshire State Prison.  My daughter is a recovering drug addict and has just come through rehab.  She is also disagnosed as bi-polar.  She can't keep a job for long - not more than a week or two.  I am a born-again Christian and try steer to  help the children that way with the Christian values.  We do not attend a local church because it would be too disruptive to the services because of the children's disorderly behavior that I am trying to correct.  The baby is disagnosed as developmentally delayed. These children  are a blessing to my life when I think about how far we have come since they first arrived.  I regret nothing.
